Asteroid City A Treatise

Directed by Wes Anderson

Set Design

Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola Asteroid City carries with it a class distinction of its own.

¬

It carries the autonomous tone of the era while asserting its own voice- Through the stage production intentionally placed for opaque reasons- In the backdrop of the script- Figuratively speaking the opaque nature of the dark contrast within the frame is the movie within the stage play within the content of the dialogue- Making Asteroid City a storytelling visually interested landscape.

¬

Set in and around the time of Mid Century Architectural- Contained within the set design of this film is the aesthetic of Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola’s writing.

This  Design Architecture is expressed largely through what is known as creative elegant lines and curves of a given frame- Within the scope of a color palette in what is called Architectural content and perspective.

¬

What makes this film distinctive opposed to some of Anderson’s more recent feature films is the use of classic well established Mid Century Design as the background to tell a story.

The referential American theme of the late 1950s- not Timeless Build and Reflection.

Movie Magic

MidCentury Architectural Design

Movie- Francais-esque Noir

This film is a feature within a feature. The interesting thing is the script is dedicated to a subject most audiences don|t know too much about- UFOs and the frenetic passion and dedication of writers and the intelligentsia of the day- Desperately searching for information and attempting to redeem what was left of a bygone era-Mid Century Architectural Design- luxury sensibility- afternoon vodka based cocktails and low lighting- Modern for the day- And a neoclassical then deferred to for what was then replaced with Modern style.
